Back in the Studio

Back in the studio, I will create a sculpture that carries the message forward. I will use my distinct voice as an artist by bringing together a series of geometric cubes and see where it takes me.

Questions I ask myself include:

What is the mood I want to create? The mood is one of hope and healing-an embrace that invites viewers to pause, reflect and feel connected to something greater than themselves.

What will the gesture look like? The gesture should embody tension and release, a figure steadied on a single foot, head turned in contemplation, wings angled upward and head gazing to the skies above.

With this challenge also comes a flood of considerations. How tall should it be? How will the scale of the sculpture remain in dialogue with the architecture? What are the site lines? What is the available natural light? Even at this earliest stage of vision and design, practical issues including safety and transportation must also be considered.

These questions and many more guide my hand as the first lines on paper begin to take form and I create a drawing.
